Opens In Chile
Santiago - The 2nd Latin
American and Caribbean Climate Change
Dialogue opened here on Wednesday in a bid
to find a "regional voice" on the problem.
The conference is aimed to coordinate
stances of countries in the region ahead of
the UN Climate Change Conference to be held
this December in Copenhagen, Denmark.
The meeting is a meaningful step to find a
"necessary regional voice" on climate
change, said Chilean Vice Foreign Minister
Albert van Klaveren.
Environment, treasury and foreign ministers
from some 20 countries of the region
attended the conference.
The gathering provided a good opportunity
for countries in the region to contribute to
the "Climate Week" to begin on Sept. 20 in
New York, said Alicia Barcena, the executive
secretary of the Economic Commission for
Latin American and Caribbean (ECLAC).
The New York event, which will feature
hundreds of government officials, business
leaders and scientists, is aimed to build
momentum in preparation for the UN climate
conference in Copenhagen.
