Flag Raising on Autopista Is Part of Independence Day
Tradition
If you have been wondering what is going on
with the light posts on the autopista
General Cañas, it is in preparation for the
September 15 Independence Day, which
celebrates Costa Rica's 188th anniversary of
independence.
As a tradition, work crews of the Compañía
Nacional de Fuerza y Luz (CNFL) install the
flags on the poles of the autopista.
This year a total of 360 flags are being
installed, with the addition of a few with
the "Grupo ICE" logo.
The flag raising is from the Juan Santamaría
airport to La Sabana park on the autopistas
and then along the boulevard Las Americas,
that runs along the north edge of the Sabana
park.
