IMF Ignores Calls, Grants Honduras Aid
Tegucigalpa - The
International Monetary Fund (IMF) has
granted $150 million to Honduras, ignoring
the international community's calls to
increase sanctions against the regime
currently usurping power in that country.
Central Bank President Sandra Midence said
the IMF sent the aid on August 28, and it
would outlay another $13.8 million in few
weeks.
The organization has disregarded calls by
several governments and international
organizations to reinforce pressures against
the putschists.
The Central American Integration Bank, the
Inter-American Development Bank, and the
World Bank maintain suspension of Honduras
outlays until the constitutional order is
reinstated.
In a recent meeting of Central American
Foreign Ministers, Honduran Minister
Patricia Rodas asked the international
community to apply true tangible sanctions
against the putschists.
She called for greater commercial, economic
pressures against the groups that hatched
the plot and are monopolizing production and
export activities.
Patricia also insisted on the need that
regional countries do not recognize the
electoral process organized by the illegal
