El Salvador to Probe for Missing Children
San Salvador - The Salvadorian
government will set up a national commission
to search for children that disappeared
during the internal armed conflict
(1980-1992).
This decision is in accordance with a decree
of the International Court of Human Rights
concerning the case of sisters Erlinda and
Ernestina Serrano Cruz, declared Chancellor
Hugo Martinez.
According to the foreign minister, creation
of a commission will solve an historical
debt with the Salvadorian people that
previous administrations refused to comply
with.
Humanitarian groups said that during the 12
years of the armed conflict, 491 children
disappeared and many of them were adopted or
are living abroad. |
