President Presents Policy Reform Project
BUENOS AIRES - Argentine
President Cristina Fernandez on Wednesday
presented an official project for policy
reform, including obligatory internal open
elections for the political parties.
Fernandez said the reform sought "a system
of strong political parties, where the
citizen feels he is participating and
responsible, and if he votes for something,
he knows that will be the management of the
government.
"For the first time we propose the reform of
the open elections system, obligatory for
the political parties, before the general
election, which will allow the participation
of the society," Fernandez continued.
The Argentine electoral system had been
questioned for directly choosing the
electoral candidates, she explained.
Fernandez added that with this system, the
citizens would have more responsibility by
participating in the elections to choose the
leader they want for the country.
A new fiscal regulation for the campaigns
was also presented, which proposed that half
of the free audio-visual spaces for the
electoral campaigns would be equally
distributed among the parties, and the other
half would be distributed in proportion to
the votes won in the previous elections, she
announced.
Fernandez also denied that the project was
"a tailor-made suit" for a candidate, adding
that "the one who thinks he can win an
election designing an electoral toll" was
wrong.
