Teachers On Strike Today
As promised over the weekend, teachers are
on strike today to make their point to the
ministerio de Educación Pública (MEP) over
the continuing problems in delays in paying
the "percentil 45".
Some 22.000 teachers of the Asociación de
Profesores de Segunda Enseñanza (APSE) union
will not attend to classes, in a strike
action that was talked about for several
weeks.
The ministro de Educación, Leonardo Garnier,
said that teachers who don't show up in the
classroom today will have they day's pay
docked and that the strike action is
"unjustified".
However, APSE union leaders say that all
they want is the MEP to comply with the law
and make the payments on time and in full.
The APSE is also demanding that the MEP hand
over detailed information of all payments
made and to be made.
Garnier said that each individual teacher
has access to that information by accessing
the MEP website and that beginning on
November 1, the pay information will be also
be sent by email to each teacher.
