Websites Aims To Eliminate Paperwork and
Allows Users To Rate Government Agencies in
Costa Rica
Long lines in Costa Rica could be a thing of
the past as part of the government's plan "Gobierno
Digital" (Digital Government), to facilitate
many of the "tramites" (paperwork) online.
The Ministerio de Economía y el de
Competitividad has opened its internet
portal
www.tramites.go.cr to accelerate
the processes of many government
institutions and agencies, thus eliminating
the need to make line.
One of the many items included in the
website is a "Catálogo de Trámites" - a
catalogue of the different paperwork, the
legal framework for the digital process, a
barometer ranking institutions and an
Investor's Manual, in both
Spanish and English.
The page titled "Practical guide and advise
for the the user" explains the process of
establishing a business (corporation) in
Costa Rica, the national registry, approval
of construction plans and permits and
municipal licenses, etc..
The guide also displays the graphical
process of getting from point A to point B
on obtaining an ICT or tourism certificate.
The labels and processes, interestingly
enough, are all spelled out in English.
Although the website is not 100% functional,
there are still sections that lead to
nowhere, the ministerio de Economía expects
it to be completed in the coming months,
with the objective to have all paperwork
done online.
The website will also better competitiveness
among the government agencies, for the site
will allow users to rate the services
provided.
