FTA Ready
Between Colombia and Guatemala
GUATEMALA/COLOMBIA - The presidents of
Colombia, Álvaro Uribe, and Guatemala,
Alvaro Colom, exchanged Tuesday notes for
the initiation of the Free Trade Agreement (FTA)
between both countries.
This agreement is expected to start in
mid-Nov. and will allow 55% of Colombian
products exported to this nation to be the
first to benefit from tariff-free trade.
According to Proexport, in 2008 Colombia's
exports to Guatemala were $185 million and
imports reached $37 million.
This fact was confirmed within the context
of President Uribe’s official visit to
Guatemala.
