Hot And Sunny Days In The Forecast For This Month

Luis Diego Naranjo of the the Instituto Meteorológico Nacional, the Costa Rican national weather service, says the dry and sunny days are in the forecast for the rest of the month.

Although October is the wettest month of the year, this year the rain will be less compared to Octobers of the past.

Naranjo explained that the low rainfall is due to the effect of "El Niño".

In the Central Valley Sunday the day was hot and sunny, with some cloud cover in the afternoon with only scatted showers.

This is not typical for the season. A walk through downtown San José confirms it with the absence of the hordes of umbrella peddlers.

A typical October day is a hot, scorching sun in the morning, clouding over in the afternoon and then a downpour of proportions, causing flash flooding of rivers and creeks and San José's sewer system.

This October very little of that has occurred. And the "dry" or summer season is around the corner, with the traditional changeover of the season beginning the middle of November.
