Fishman To Lead The PUSC Party In the 2010
Presidential Elections, If Anyone Cares
Just in case anywhere cares, Luis Fishman
announced last night that he will lead the
Partido Unidad Social Cristiana (PUSC) into
the 2010 presidential elections, this one
day after Fishman himself said that the
party was strongly considering, in a
historic move, not fielding a candidate this
time around and that if there were to be a
leader, his name would not be one to appear
on the nomination list.
However, all that changed in less than 24
hours to a party that was left without a
leader following Monday's verdict of former
president and PUSC presidential candidate,
Rafael Angel Calderón.
Fishman explained that after meeting the
Calderón, who will be appealing his five
year prison sentence for graft, it was
decided that his name be placed before the
party national assembly as they move in
haste to nominate a leader before the
October 23 deadline for inscriptions.
Although it is an almost done deal, Fishman
still has to be officially nominated,
according to the Tribunal Supremo de
Elecciones (TSE) rules. The nomination is
expected to take place at the October 17
party meeting.
Comments like "he is the best option", "he
has been there for the party in the good and
the bad" and "besides he is the party
president", were spoken by various party
members yesterday to the press.
Calderón himself fully supports the Fishman
nomination, saying it shows the level of
maturity of the party.
