Seven Men,
Two Women Aspire To Be President of Costa
Rica
A total seven men and two women are the
candidates aspiring the presidential chair
in the 2010 presidential elections that
officially kicks of in two days, October
7th, when the aspirants formally register
their name to be on the February 7 ballot.
The ballot will also contain the names of
the some 1.000 positions for, in addition to
the presidency, legislators and regidores,
that Costa Ricas will have to elect.
In total, 49 political parties will be
taking part in the 2010 elections, 9 of
which are national, 8 provincial and 32
districts.
A total of 2.807.351 people were registered
to vote as of August, although that number
is expected to climb to 2.820.000 by the
time the voting registration closes on
October 7.
Costa Ricans, on February 7, will have to
elect one president, 57 legislators and
1.000 regidores.
The top contenders for the presidential
chair is Laura Chinchilla for the PLN, Ottón
Solís for the PAC, Otto Guevara for the
Liberación and Rafael Angel Calderón for the
PUSC (depending on the outcome of the trial
verdict due later today).
