Costa Rica Continues To Shake And Roll,
Three More Quakes This Week
Residents of the areas of Alaska, Rivas and
Palmital de Pérez Zeledón - all in the
southern zone - felt several tremors late on
Tuesday and again yesterday.
The Tuesday quakes came at 6:56pm with a
magnitude of 2.4 on the Richter scale, the
least felt of the three tremors, while at
10:14pm the each shook again, this time with
a force of 4.3 located near Quepos, and at
2:10am Wednesday the ground rocked at 3.2
with an epicentre some 15 kilometres
northwest of Perez Zeledón.
Some of the tremors were felt in the Central
Valley.
Seismologists say that some of the activity
is due to local faults, while others are of
the butting between the Cocos and Caribe
tectonic plates.
The OVSICORI has registered 12 tremors this
month in various points around the country
and of different magnitudes.
Experts say the activity is normal.
