Asks Obama to Change Towards Latin America
HAVANA- Cuban Parliament President, Ricardo
Alarcon, demanded from the United States
signs of change towards Latin America with
the liberation of the five Cuban
anti-terrorists in US jails and the arrest
of infamous terrorists in that country.
During a speech before the National Assembly
of Venezuela, Alarcon affirmed that
President Barack Obama can, should and has
the moral, political and legal obligation to
apply constitutional authority and free the
five Cuban anti-terrorists.
Ramon Labaņino, Fernando Gonzalez, Antonio
Guerrero, Gerardo Hernandez and Rene
Gonzalez have been in prison for 11 years
for gathering information about extremist
groups in the United States which were
plotting to launch terrorist actions against
Cuba.
Obama who spoke of a new beginning in
relations with Cuba should begin with that.
If they remain in jail, this would only
confirm the same policy of state terrorism
against Cuba, Alarcon noted.
The president of the Cuban National Assembly
requested Obama that, instead of promoting
militarism and building military bases to
send a signal to the peoples of Latin
America who wait: free the five and arrest
Luis Posada Carriles and Orlando Bosch.
He recalled that these two terrorists of
Cuban origin participated in actions such as
blowing up a civilian Cuban passenger plane
in 1976, several crimes in Venezuela and
Central America and Posada ordered placing
bombs in Havana.
However, Alarcon pointed out, five years
after the request of extradition of Posada
by Venezuela for killing 73 persons onboard
a Cubana flight intending to charge him for
a minor crime such as lying to an
immigration official.
The Venezuelan National Assembly expressed
its solidarity with the five Cuban anti
terrorists upon receiving Alarcon and
families of the jailed Cubans.
Parliamentary president, Cilia Flores called
attention to the incongruence that five are
jailed in a country self proclaimed fighter
of world terrorists and those who fight
those actions.
Silence will not silence the struggle for
the liberation of the five heroes nor will
silence win the battle, Flores assured
giving her world to the family members of
the five anti terrorists and Cuban
parliamentary president. |
