Tries to Reactivate Honduran Accord
TEGUCIGALPA - The US government, accused of
complicity with Honduran putschists,
continues Wednesday negotiations to apply
the Tegucigalpa-San Jose accord, and settle
the political crisis unleashed in that
Central American nation.
US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for
the Western Hemisphere Craig Kelly is in
this capital since Tuesday. He met with de
facto President Roberto Micheletti at the
Presidential Palace and then Constitutional
President Manuel Zelaya at the Brazilian
embassy.
According to official statements issued in
Washington, Kelly's agenda includes making
progress towards the November 29 general
elections and the creation of a new
government in Honduras.
Zelaya termed the agreement failed on
Sunday, after Micheletti's decision of
forming a cabinet of unity and national
reconciliation.
The statesman praised in the meeting with
Kelly the impossibility of returning to the
negotiation table, taking into account
actions by the de facto regime, violating
the Tegucigalpa-San Jose accord.
Although Zelaya were restituted, we have
little time before the November 29 polls. It
will be impossible in a short period to
dismantle an electoral fraud to guarantee
that one of the coup oligarchy's
representatives is imposed, The National
