Minor Asks Costa Rican Court Not To Deport
His Mother
A minor worried of the deportation of his
mother filed an action of habeas corpus with
the Sala Constitucional (Constitutional
Court) on the grounds that if his mother, a
Dominican national, is deported he will have
no one to care for him, since his father, a
Costa Rican national, has been absent
father.
The Constitutional Court has ordered Xinia
Sossa Siles, the Directora General a. i. de
Migración y Extranjería, to take measures to
ensure that the rights of the minor and to
refrain from deporting or otherwise,
separate the child from his mother.
The name of the minor or that of the mother
was withheld from the press.
The minor, a Costa Rican national on the
side of his father, said in his action that
his mother has been both mother and father
to him, that he never has lived with his
father and that it has been his mother who
has and looks after all his needs.
The minor took the unusual action after his
mother was denied, on two separate
occasions, residency by the immigration
service. The details of the denial were not
made public.
