Name Youngsters For World Cup Play vs
Uruguay
Costa Rica have included three of their
under-20 team in a 32-man squad for next
month's World Cup playoff against Uruguay.
Defenders Cristian Gamboa, Bryan Oviedo and
Jose Mena, who helped their country finish
fourth at the World Youth Cup in Egypt this
month, were promoted to the senior side by
Brazilian coach Rene Simoes.
"The great effort these lads made in the
recent World (Youth) Cup must be recognised
and they will be of great help in our
development plan," Simoes was quoted as
saying in a Costa Rica federation bulletin.
Costa Rica are at home to Uruguay in the
first leg on Nov. 14 before visiting
Montevideo for the return four days later.
The winners earn a place in the 2010 finals
in South Africa.
The Central American nation, looking to play
in their fourth World Cup, reached the
playoff by finishing fourth in the CONCACAF
region qualifiers.
Uruguay, world champions in 1930 and 1950
and hoping to reach their first finals since
2002, were fifth in South America. |
