Gordo Navideño Selling Well Despite Economy
The Junta de Protección Social (JPS) - the
national lottery - reports that the "Gordo
Navideño" is selling well, similar to last
year's numbers and as of Friday 20% of
lottery tickets had been snapped up.
The Gordo Navideño is the annual big prize
lottery that is only available for
Christmas.
The first prize this year is ¢4.350 billion
colones.
The tickets are divided into six series and
entire ticket is made of 40 "fracciones" or
pieces. A player can buy an "entero", the
entire 40 ticket set for ¢40.000 colones or
1 to 40 pieces at ¢1.000 colones each.
Some players scour the lottery vendors for a
specific number based on any number of
things, a dream, a birthday or anniversary
the numbers of their cedula, etc, etc.
