Panama Might Leave PARLACEN
PANAMA - he Panamanian government's
announced intention of leaving the Central
American Parliament (PARLACEN) has caused
disagreements among politicians and
legislative institutions.
National Assembly President Jose Luis Varela
said the issue would be discussed soon in
extraordinary sessions.
During the Euro-Latin American (Euro-Lat)
Parliamentary Assembly in that capital,
Varela admitted that there are discrepancies
with several regional organizations over the
Panamanian stance.
In that reference, the Latin American
Parliament (PARLATINO) said in a release
that the possible Panamanian withdrawal from
PARLACEN would affect the integration
system.
Thus, the group called upon the Panamanian
government to reconsider the announced
intention of unilaterally leaving the
regional body.
Euro-Lat co-president, Spanish Jose Ignacio
Salafranca also spoke in support of PARLACEN.
