Lula Decries
Honduras Coup d'etat

Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da
Silva condemned Honduras military coup and
assured that his peer Jose Manuel Zelaya
must return back to his post as the only
condition to keep relations with this
country.
"We must condemn this coup. We can not
accept or recognize any new government
except that of President Zelaya because he
was directly elected by vote in accordance
with the rules of democracy," noted Lula in
his usual Monday's program Coffee with the
President.
He added "we can not longer accept in Latin
America that someone want to solve their
problem of power through out a Coup because
we can not accept that someone see solution
for their country without democracy, free
and direct election."
Zelaya won the elections therefore he must
go back to Honduras Presidency. It is the
only condition for establishing relations
with Honduras but if Honduras does not go
back to its position it will be completely
isolated in the middle of a big continent of
democratic countries, reiterated the leader.
Lula said that he was aware of the coup when
he woke up Sunday morning and was keep the
whole day abreast of the situation and
talked to presidents of El Salvador,
Mauricio Funes, Paraguay Fernando Lugo and
Chile Michelle Bachelet besides Brazilian
Foreign Minister Celso Amorin. |
