Venezuela Accuses U.S. of Blocking Refinery
Buying
Caracas - Venezuela on Thursday accused the
United States of blocking the country's
negotiations with the Dominican Republic on
buying a refinery company from the country.
Angel Rodriguez, president of the commission
for energy and mines of the Venezuelan
National Assembly, said that the state-owned
Petroleum of Venezuela (PDVSA) was
interested in buying the Refidomsa Company
from the Dominican Republic.
According to Rodriguez, Dominican right-wing
legislators have asked the U.S. Department
of State to take measures against Venezuela
for its plan to buy 49 percent of
Refidomsa's shares.
Rodriguez said the Venezuelan government's
intention to buy part of Refidomsa's share
aims to strengthen the energy infrastructure
of the country.
The PDVSA has a daily refinery capacity of
34,000 barrels.
