National Civic Strike in Honduras
Tegucigalpa - A new national civic
strike of the state sector, with marches,
seizure of roads and public institutions
characterized Thursday the 33 national day
of peoples resistance to the military coup
in Honduras.
The 48-hour strike was called last Sunday by
three main Unions after an assembly of the
National Front against the Coup d'etat to
adopt strategies to recover constitutional
order.
The six national teachers colleges will join
Thursday and Friday's demonstrations which
in a strategy to avoid losing the school
year return to school during the three first
days of the week.
Teachers and professors were at a stand
still for three weeks after last June 28
attempted coup.
Members of the Front closed access to main
luxury and expensive shops of the city in
repudiation to the business men
participation in the coup.
The protests affected the Metro Mall, one of
its owners is ex president of Panamanian
origin Ricardo Maduro.
The Army forces and anti riot police got
closer to demonstrators and prompted tension
in front of the fear of a new attack with
weapons that has been avoided by the leaders
of the march who insisted in its peaceful
character.
Meanwhile the de facto government extended
the Curfew in El Paraiso western department
submitted to state of siege for six days
that has prompted humanitarian emergency in
the area.
Zelaya's mother, Hortensia Rosales, his wife
Xiomara Castro and his daughter Hortensia
are still hold on by soldiers posts since
last Friday after a hazardous trip to join
the family.
