Argentina to Rise Minimum Salary

Buenos Aires -  The employer representatives, trade union organizations and that from the government agreed to rise minimum salary to 1,500 pesos (about 400 dollars), benefiting about 300,000 workers.

According to the document signed by three members of the Minimum Salary National Council the measure will be implemented step by step, with 1,400 pesos (about 370 dollars on August 1st, 1,440 (378 dollars) on October 1st and 1,500 on January 1st, 2010.

The information emphasized the 21 percent increase that was signed Tuesday night at the Labor Ministry with the presence of President Cristina Fernandez who considered the negotiations hard.

The leader highlighted the importance of this step in the current moment saying that when the institutions work in times of prosperity is normal but to do it in times of international crisis reveals the real strength.

At this moment the minimum salary is of 1,240 pesos (326 dollars) which is the result of an agreement of the Council previously mentioned, on December 2008.
