Police Block Food For Pro-Zelaya Supporters
Tegucigalpa - Honduran
soldiers on Tuesday blocked on the border
with Nicaragua a caravan loaded with food
for supporters of ousted Honduran President
Manuel Zelaya.
Last week, local pro-Zelaya Radio Globo
launched a campaign to collect food and take
it to the border town of El Paraiso in
Honduras and Las Manos in Nicaragua, 125 km
east of Tegucigalpa.
People in charge of the caravan felt they
were cheated by police, said Radio Globo.
Journalist Eduardo Maldonado, Zelaya's close
collaborator, regretted what happened to the
caravan.
He also said Radio Globo's signals were
blocked several times, the last time on
early Monday morning when Zelaya's followers
were dislodged from El Paraiso.
"We have videos showing the way they were
brought back in buses to Tegucigalpa,"
Maldonado said.
According to local media, some of Zelaya's
followers on the border have left and police
removed some checkpoints.
Meanwhile, Zelaya continues his attempt to
return to Honduras to serve out his
remaining six months in office.
