Quito - If Colombia attacks
Ecuador again, as it did in Angostura in
March, 2008, the country will give a
military response, Ecuadorian President
Rafael Correa asserted.
I will not allow foreign soldiers invading
my homeland, as it happened on March 1,
2008, when Colombian troops bombed on and
entered a northern area, where a secret camp
of that country's guerrilla was, Correa said
on Sunday night.
Interviewed by a local television station,
he said they resorted to diplomatic means
that time and Bogota was condemned before
the Organization of American States (OAS).
However, they have kept Defense Minister
Juan Manuel Santos' stance, insisting on the
preventive war doctrine, he warned.
The Ecuadorian President urged his Colombian
peer Alvaro Uribe to undergo a lie detector,
"to see who has relations with the
Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC)
or drug trafficking."
He also said it was dangerous that the
neighboring country's ex defense minister
assumes power, but it will be a decision by
the Colombian people, he said.
The Ecuadorian head of State said he is
supported by most people in his country and
clarified that there are small factual
groups that are used to impose their power
by force, something he rejected.
He also said that the government will have
the support of more than 70 votes in the
National Assembly (Parliament), which will
be established on Friday, with 59 seats of
governing Alianza Pais Movement.
