Four More AH1N1 Deaths
Reported: Total Now At 21
The World Health Organization (WHO) says
that the AH1N1 virus will be more aggressive
in the coming week, for which the Ministerio
de Salud in Costa Rica is asking for people
not to let down their guard.
"The virus is adapting better to the human
body", said the ministra de Salud, María
Luisa Ávila.
The concern of Salud officials is the
increase of infection, as the peak period
for pandemic has yet to be reached, as cases
of infection continues to rise and so do the
deaths, which are now at 21 in Costa Rica.
Ávila explained that the peak period was to
have lasted four weeks.
"We are already in the fourth week and we
have to analyze how the virus moves in the
population", said Ávila.
The ministra noted that at the moment the
virus is affecting 14.2 people per 100.000.
Currently 113 are in hospital isolation,
five of which have been already confirmed of
the infection and 29 are in intensive care.
A total of 606 people have been confirmed
infected, of which 308 are women and 298
men.
The Central Valley has the highest number of
infections and deaths. One one death was
recorded outside of the Central Valley,
occurring in the province of Limón.
