Event on Bolivar, Marti Concludes in
Venezuela
Caracas - An event discussing the
integration thought of Cuba"s National Hero
Jose Martí and Venezuela"s Simon Bolivar
will be closed on Sunday with a ceremony
marking the 1953 attack on the Moncada
Garrison.
This event opened on Monday, dedicated to
the 226 Anniversary of Simon Bolivar's
birth, the 50 years of the Cuban Revolution
and the 56th anniversary of the Moncada
Garrison attack in Cuba.
Organizing committe general coordinator
Zaida Castro told Prensa Latina that the
three dates have as common factor the
bravery of the Cuban and Venezuelan peoples
and their decision to fight against evils
inherited from the colonialist process of
Spain and that of United States.
The event included a forum on the Revolution
in Latin America where the Cuban and
Venezuelan Revolutions have been taken as
examples from the Diplomatic High Studies
Center Pedro Gual.
While on July 22 there was a debate on
History will Absolve Me, the self-defense
speech Fidel Castro made during the trial of
the Moncada Garrison assailants in 1953.
On July 23 there was a Forum of Women in the
Revolutionary processes where they paid
tribute to Cuban fighters Haydee Santamaria
and Melba Hernandez.
This session had the participation of the
only women Major General in Cuba (Tete)
Puebla leading the first women's squad of
the Rebel Army which troops defeated
Fulgencio Batista dictatorship in 1959 in
Cuba.
