Moncada Anniversary Marked in Nicaragua
Managua - Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega
noted the importance of the attack on the
Moncada Garrison as a precursor of the Cuban
and Nicaraguan Revolutions, the ALBA and the
popular movements in Latin America.
His statement was read by Cuba's charge
d'affair Rene Ceballo during a gathering at
the Cuban embassy in Managua to mark the
56th anniversary of the attack on the
Moncada barracks, that Cubans considers the
start of the Revolution headed by Fidel
Castro.
Ortega�s message was addressed to dozens of
Cuban health workers, teachers and technical
personnel currently working in Nicaragua.
Ceballos referred to those years in which
the people "have given example of unity,
resistance, and courage, with
Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro as an
invincible and beloved leader."
The diplomat highlighted the work carried
out by the cuban doctors, teachers and other
collaborators that with example and
dedication have put up the name of Cuba.
Almost two million and a half people have
received medical assistance and another
55,240 have had free ophthalmological
surgery as part of the Operation Miracle
program created by Cuba with Venezuela.
The diplomat also talked of the situation
gripping in Honduras, stating that the
battle for the return of institutionality to
that country is a battle to avoid that the
Empire, as Cuban National Hero Jose Marti
wrote, takes over our countries in the
Americas.
Ceballos also paid tribute to Gerardo
Hernandez, Ramon Labañino, Antonio Guerrero,
Fernando Gonzalez, and Rene Gonzalez, the
five Cubans jailed in the United States
since 1998 for fighting anti-Cuba terrorist
acts from US territory.
