Difficult Humanitarian Situation in Honduras

Tegucigalpa - A
difficult humanitarian situation is
unfolding on Sunday in the eastern
department of El Paraiso, Honduras, after
three days of siege ordered by the de facto
government.
Thousands of people have converged on the
roads of El Paraiso in their way to Las
Manos post, in the border with Nicaragua, to
support ousted President Manuel Zelaya�s
attempt to return to power.
But the military have put block along the
roads to prevent them from joining Zelaya,
who has set up a camp on the Nicaragua side.
Humanitarian organizations and the Globo
radio station are collecting food, medicine,
water, tents and other resources to help the
people trapped on the roads, but the
military are not allowing the aid to get
through.
According to the radio station, Zeleya
supporters lack food, water and medicines.
Zelaya's mother Hortensia Rosales, his wife
Xiomara Castro and one of his daughters
Hortensia are among them.
Castro rejected the de facto government
offer of a private plane to take them to
another country, and said they wanted to
join Zelaya.
I don't want to leave my country because I'm
not a coward but I want to join the people
in resistance, she emphasized in a call to
Globo Radio to condemn June 28 military
coup.
Witnesses denounced a large number of people
have been arrested and that at least of them
was found dead Saturday in Arenales, about
55 miles east of Tegcigalpa.
