Zelaya Camps out on Honduras Border
Ocotal - Honduras constitutional President
Manuel Zelaya has pledged to take his
determination to return to power to its
final consequences.
When there is something worth fighting for,
you have to be willing to risk your life,
Zelaya said, wearing his trademark cowboy
hat. We will not turn our back on democracy,
said Zelaya after setting up a camp in Las
Manos border post, in an attempt to increase
pressure on the de facto government.
After arriving in this remote post some 300
kilometres north of Managua, the ousted
president briefly stepped a few feet inside
Honduran territory, where he was met by
throngs of supporters.
He also urged the US government to put more
pressure on coup leaders as a way to show it
really condemns the June 28 coup.
Zelaya announced he will camp out on the
border post for two or three days, waiting
for more supporters to join him.
Coup leaders headed by Roberto Micheleti
have ordered tighter security along the
border and imposed an 18-hour curfew
beginning at noon.
Zeleya�s ouster was condemned by
governments around the world, which have
withdrawn their ambassadors and cut off
financial assistance to Honduras, the third
poorest country in the hemisphere.
