During the celebrations of the 185th anniversary of the anexión del Partido de Nicoya to Costa Rica, Costa Rican president Oscar Arias assured that the "Acuerdo de San José" (Honduras peace talks) are not dead.

Arias continues with the belief that dialogue is the answer to ending the political crisis in Honduras, restoring peace to a troubled country and avoiding civil war.

The president made the statement during the celebrations and amid the screaming of protestors who asking the prez for more jobs and social support in the area.

"We still have time. If there is a will, there is a way", said Arias of the Honduras situation.

To quell the protests of the economic situation in Guanacaste, Arias called on Guancastecos to lead the country in an economic recovery with more investment by businesses in the area, better prices on agricultural products and tourism.

As a tradition, the government holds its weekly cabinet session in Nicoya to coincide with the July 25 celebrations and to make important announcements.

This year, president Arias signed the us$850 million loan agreement with the Banco Interamericano de Desarrollo (BID) which is expected to be used to improve infrastructure in the country, of which us$300 million dollars are earmarked for the country's roads.

President Arias also took the opportunity to inaugurate the Curime aqueduct  and several local road and bridges in Maquenco,Terciopello, Cuesta Grande and Nicoya.

The Curime aqueduct is expected to deliver up to 20 litres of water per second to the areas of Nicoya, according to the AyA (water utility) president, Ricardo Sancho.
