Luxury Bus Only To Have It Sit Parked
The decision of the 911 emergency response
system to purchase a brand spanking new bus
has come under scrutiny, especially for the
fact that the bus is now sitting parked and
with no defined purpose or use.
The 911 system is reported to have spent 150
million colones (us$258.000) last December
for a 2008 bus with all the bells and
whistles, with a capacity for 50 people,
only to have it parked.
The purchase was made last December and
according to an investigative report by
local television station news, Telenoticias,
the bus has been parked in a lot since.
The investigation reveals that the original
decision to purchase the bus was to be uses
a mobile communications centre, now, while
the bus sits rusting, it may eventually be
used as a mobile operations unit to deal
with emergencies, which would mean its
mobilization only in the event of an
earthqyake, major flooding or fire. The unit
could also be used in situation where there
are large number of people gathered in one
place.
The 911 system is an emergency call unit
that dispatches fire, police and ambulance
to an emergency. There is no clear need for
the 911 system to be present at the scene of
an emergency. |
