Caracas - Trade between Russia and Latin
America doubled surpassing 9 billion dollars
in 2004 to almost 12 billion in 2008,
affirmed the Economic Councilor of the
Russia embassy in Venezuela, Yuri Lezgintsev.
Trade balance between both parts is very
positive because the volume of exchange has
greatly increased during the past years
reaching 9 billion dollars.
Lezgintsev told Prensa Latina that there are
great relations between Venezuela and his
country in the fields of economy, culture,
science and military assuring that future
perspectives of exchange between both
nations are broad.
Referring to the Russia-Venezuela
bi-national bank he indicated that it should
soon be set in force when technical
negotiations are completed.
He called on representatives of both parts
to evaluate mechanisms that can be applied
to increase trade volume exchanges (rising
to 967.8 million dollars in 2008) because
Venezuela is considered a strategic partner
for Russia.
Mineral fertilizers that were two percent in
2007 are part of Russian exports, he
explained and future opportunities are in
the export of civilian air techniques.
The Latin American and Caribbean Economic
System (SELA) presented a document
suggesting increasing capabilities of work
between Russia and the region since
relations begun in 2000 with Russia, China
and India are rapidly increasing.
For his part SELA Director of Relations for
Integration and Cooperation, Antonio Romero,
pointed out that this regional meeting will
be the first step for developing medium and
long term initiatives with the decisive
support of Russian authorities to boost
relations among the parts.
