Hondurans Unify Against Coup
Tegucigalpa - The social movements in Honduras are
unifying their forces to resist the coup,
union leader Juan Barahona asserted on
Thursday.
President Zelaya Starts Honduras Return In
the opinion of Barahona, who is the general
secretary of the Unitary Federation of
Honduran Workers, "the progressive forces
remain on their feet in a way not seen since
the Cold War."
It is a movement that has emerged
spontaneously among the people, but is
unifying gradually around the figure of the
constitutional President Manuel Zelaya.
The National Autonomous University of
Honduras, the National Council for
Childhood, the Family and Social Security
Institutes and the National Electric Power
Business are among organizations joining the
general strike started today, he noted.
Student leader Jorge Jimenez told
journalists that the students took to the
streets because the de facto government
wants to strip them of gains including the
student and transportation bonds.
We reject Roberto Micheletti's rules because
he was imposed by force and no one owes
obedience to a usurper government, as
established in Article Three of the
Constitution, he explained.

country's three main unions, including FUTH,
