School Absence in Argentina
Buenos Aires - Poverty is projected as
the main cause of school desertion in
Argentina, especially in the province of
Cordoba, as published by local newspaper La Voz del Interior Tuesday.
A report based on data obtained from the
most recent brief on childrens social debt
in the 2004-2008 period, student absence is
1 for every 10 children, and in the poorest
sectors it may reach as many as 2 per 10.
According to a study made by the Argentinean
Catholic University and Fundacion Arcor,
Cordoba has 2 of every 10 students out of
the school between 13 and 17 years of age,
double of the national standard.
Sixty-eight percent of children between 2
and 4 years of age are not going to nursery
shcools in Argentina, while the richest
sectors are generally not affected.
