Colombia Illegal Flights Tangle Links with
Venezuela
BOGOTA - Violation of the Venezuelan
airspace and mobilization of Colombian
troops to the border with Venezuela are
currently making relations between both
countries become more tangled up.
Venezuela and Colombia share over 746 miles
of border.
On Sunday, Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez
denounced that drones from Colombia overflew
a military station and warned that he
ordered to bring down aircrafts of that kind
that enter the national airspace
In his habitual radio and television Alo
Presidente show, Chavez also reported that
the country is alert, due to Colombia's
military troop transference to the border
area, besides establishing seven US military
bases in that country.
The Venezuelan authorities said those
elements shape a really dangerous panorama,
faced with the perception that the United
States is preparing a military aggression,
using the Colombian government and armed
forces.
To Chavez, "the Colombian government is a
confessed enemy of Venezuela," a stance
expressed with constant statements by
President Alvaro Uribe, Defense Minister
Gabriel Silva and other top officials.
The statements aim at establishing
arguments, as the supposed presence of
guerrillas in Venezuela that could be used
in a military attack, as it happened with
the Colombia bombing against Ecuador in
2008.
The situation becomes more tangled up with
activities by Colombian paramilitaries and
drug dealers that have cause bloody events,
including assassination of two Venezuelan
National Guard members.
Chavez asserted that the Colombian Defense
minister exceeded the limit of accusing the
Venezuelan government of the regrettable
incident in which some youths, almost all
Colombian, were murdered and those who
killed them were Colombian too."
With these words, Chavez referred to one of
the crimes in which a dozen Colombians died,
allegedly in a fight among paramilitaries
from the neighboring country.
Venezuela also announced recently the arrest
of Colombian agents that were seeking
information, something that confirmed to the
authorities the planning of an attack, while
the Venbezuelan government is being accused
of preparing an aggression. |
