Venezuela to Lift 3 Bank Placings in
Administration
CARACAS - The
Venezuelan government announced that it
would lift the placings in administration to
Bolivar, Confederado and Central banks the
upcoming Monday to reopen and integrate them
to the public financial system.
According to the Official Gazette, the
measure against those three institutions
will be lifted, after having complied with
the rehabilitation regime started about two
weeks ago.
President Hugo Chavez announced on December
6 that Confederado, Central and Real banks
will join the state-run Fomento Regional Los
Andes Bank (Banfoandes) entity to constitute
Bicentenario Bank, which is expected to
begin operating the current month.
In this context, the Venezuelan justice
arrested and sent to prison 10 people
involved in bank crimes, as Ricardo
Fernandez, Jose Camacho, Caribay Camacho,
Arne Chacon, Milagros Vivas, Giuzel Mileira,
Luis Suarez, Orlando Suarez and Miguel Vaz.
Charges of the same crimes were pressed on
Saturday against ex National Assets
Commission Chair Antonio Marquez.
Meanwhile, leaving the country is currently
under a ban to Banpro bank executives Jose
Antonio Lopez, Rafael Alberto Medina, Andres
Polanco, Omar Casañas, Maria Sol Cacique and
Reynaldo Valdez.
The measure was extended to Confederado Bank
executives Fernando de Candia, Cesar
Mendoza, Reynaldo Gadea, Antonio Figallo,
Daniel Hernandez, Oscar Benedetti, Alberto
Cosme Genatio and Augusto Herrera, and
Bolivar Bank Director Edduar Antonio
Vazquez.
On Friday, the Bank and Other Financial
Institutions Superintendency announced the
placing in administration behind closed
doors to BaNorte, the eighth bank subject to
state control for non-compliance with the
regulation in force in the sector, the same
as Bolivar, Confederado, Baninvest, Central
Universal, Real, Canarias and Banpro banks. |
