First 12 Bailey Bridges To Replace Dilapidated Structures Arrive

At least 12 of the country's worst bridges will be replaced with the arrival of a dozen "bailey" bridges that the Ministerio de Obras Públicas y Trasnsportes (MOPT) has purchased for the temporary fix.

The cost of the units is ¢3 billion colones and the first to get the fixes are bridges in Esparza and Turrialba.

Marco Vargas, the MOPT minister, added that the CONAVI has finished hiring new bridge inspectors which will be on the job on Monday to inspect all the bridges in the country and their safe use by vehicles and pedestrians.

The group of inspectors is made up of 18 professionals that will begin their duties on Tuesday. Castro said that another 22 inspectors may be hired in the near future.
