Panama Forum Pans Violations in Cuban Five
Case
PANAMA - Denunciations on the main violations in the
legal process against the Cuban five
antiterrorists unfairly in prison in the
United States were the main highlights
Tuesday at the Academic Forum held in
Panama.
The attorney Carlos Ayala reflects
irregularities that were revealed in the
criminal, procedural law, constitutional and
human rights fields in his article entitled
"Irrational Justice".
With respect to Fernando González, Ramón
Labañino, Gerardo Hernández, Antonio
Guerrero and René González there were
unacceptable situations like their
confinement for 17 months without right to
bail.
In addition, there is a partial jury and
obstruction in the legal process, including
the "harassment to their relatives" as only
some of them can visit the prisoner ones in
a year, he said.
Ayala mentioned as contradictory the fact of
imposing them life imprisonment while "Luis
Posada Carriles walks the streets of Miami
confessing he is murderer and terrorist".
The US justice "has demonstrated its
weaknesses, incoherencies, ideological
partiality and prejudices" as it contradicts
itself in the several process stages.
For that reason, the Cuban Five "have been
implacably persecuted by a system which has
condemned them because of their way of
thinking, acting falsely and using the legal
system to cause damages instead of
guaranteeing the peaceful coexistence".
In that sense, "it is important to separate
injustice from justice, because to keep
silence means to join the ignominy",
concludes the attorney.
