Chavez Appoints New Science Minister
CARACAS - Venezuelan President Hugo
Chavez announced on Friday the appointment
of Ricardo Menendez as new Minister of
Science, Technology and Intermediate
Industries.
He extolled the official's experience,
including his participation in student
struggle.
"He is also a scholar you have surely seen
or listened to as he reflects on ideology,"
said Chavez at Miraflores Palace during a
ceremony to hand over payment certificates
to savers holding accounts in banks put into
liquidation.
Menendez replaces in the post Jesse Chacon,
whose resignation was accepted in the wake
of his brother's arrest as part of the
investigation into financial institutions
involved in numerous irregularities.
In this regard, Chavez extolled the former
minister's gesture and said to have no
evidence about his complicity in any such
violation. |
