Nicaragua Parliament Met Broad Agenda in
2009
MANAGUA - The Nicaraguan National Assembly
met a broad agenda in 2009, in which stand
out the passing of laws and decrees to
social benefit, despite opposition attempts
to disrupt them, points out the
parliamentary source on Friday.
When there are few days left to close the
session's period, which began on January 10,
parliamentarians have passed 42 laws and 59
decrees during the year, despite the
opposition attempts to turn the Assembly in
a battlefield.
According to Deputy Edwin Castro, Sandinista
National Liberation Front (FSLN)
coordinator, the legislative work was
fulfilled at 90 percent, in spite of
opposition stratagems.
Before closing its present period next
December 15, the National Assembly passed
important economic, social, environmental
and culture initiatives.
To some commentators and parliament
officials, the opposition failed in its
attempts because the assembly only had to
adjourn 7 from the 70 meetings planned, as
people ask deputies for more work on social
issues.
Castro said that FSLN and its allies
directed their social agenda, favoring the
production sectors and began to work in laws
in the interests of the people.
Among the initiative highlights the Special
Law on the Promotion of Construction of
Houses for social Interest, an amendment to
the law for developing the dairy sector,
which guarantees a glass of milk to every
student, the Budget Law 2009 and reforms to
the law for fiscal equity.
