COSTA RICA

Young Tico Falls Short, Costa Rica Takes Second Place. Again.

For the second year in a row Costa Ricans have had to content with second place in the reality show, Latin American Idol. This year, Eduarod Aguirre of Esparza, took second place to the Dominican Republic's Martha Heredia.

The number of calls voting for Aguirre was just not enough to bring him the top title, despite the Instituto Costarricense de Electricidad (ICE) - local phone company - ads to vote for Aguirre. Each SMS text message cost ¢550 colones.

If anyone knows what the young Aguiree may be feeling is Maria José Castillo, who last year, lived the same fate when she took second place in the competition to Panama's Margarita.

The Latin American Idol show is sponsored in Latin America by Sony. Latin American Idol producers and hosts travelled across Central And Latin America seeking talent to showcase in the reality show.

And like María José, Aguirre is likely to become a local celebrity.
