ICE Gets us$7 Million For Handing Over Frequencies

The state telecom, the Instituto Costarricense de Electricidad (ICE), will be paid us$7 million dollars by the central government for the handing over of the radio frequencies that will be licensed to the competition in the cellular telephone market.

Pedro Pablo Quirós, president of ICE, said the payment is for the indemnization of the handing over of the TDMA lines that ICE customers must relinquish and move over to the GSM or 3G, within six months or lose service completely.

Quirós added that ICE is moving forward with advancements in technology, with the possibility of rolling the 4G generation of cellular service in two years time.
