San
José Kicks Off Avenidazo
The avenidazo, the practice of throwing
confetti at passers-by was officially kicked
off last night on the boulevard of Avenida
Central of downtown San José, with San José
mayor, Johnny Araya, to receive the first
fist-full of the paper confetti.
This year, unlike in the past when in
several occasions the municipality banned
the avenidazo, the event was full of music
by Marfil, who brought the crowd to life.
Araya said that up to December 20, the
boulevards of downtown San José will be
filled with activities, from noon into the
evening under the program called "Noches
Culturales" (Cultural Nights).
The avenidazo has been a tradition in San
José for more than a decade.
