3G
Available On Monday
The much awaited 950.000 3G cellular lines
will be on sale starting Monday says the
Instituto Costarricense de Electricidad
(ICE).
The state telecom is taking advantage of the
Christmas shopping season on the Aguinaldo
that saw millions of colones hit the street
this past week, with millions more coming in
the next two weeks.
Although the 3G offers services like the
transfer of large amounts of date, video and
music files, for example, subscribers will
have to settle for basis services for the
first few months.
Another change this time around is that ICE
will also be offering subscribers package
deals that include the line and a 3G phone.
And another feature of the 3G is number
portability. ICE says that TDMA as well as
GSM customers can switch over to the 3G
network and keep the same phone number. TDMA
customers will have to sign a new contract,
while current GSM customers need only
present their SIM chip.
For new subscribers, a deposit of ¢12.500
colones is required, as well as bringing in
the cellular phone and invoice that will be
connected to the line, a current utility
bill and a copy of their cedula or permanent
residency card. Non residents (that is
visitors or anyone who is not a legal
resident) cannot subscribe to ICE's cellular
service. |
