Nicaragua to Improve Situation of the Disabled

MANAGUA - Nicaraguan government will launch on Thursday a program of attention to people with disabilities that were practically abandoned by the 16- year liberal government, announced Coordinator of the Council of Communication and Citizenship Rosario Murillo.

Murillo disclosed that on Thursday afternoon, International Day of Disabled Persons, a work program to guarantee better conditions to these persons will be presented in the seat of the government.

We are going to remodel the centers of disabled children and adults. There are around six or seven centers in the country and starting tomorrow we are going to deal with them directly from the presidency, she said.

Murillo greeted the members of the Cuban-Nicaraguan brigade "Todos con voz", which is studying disability in Nicaragua door by door.

In Nicaragua, 68 Cuban specialists along with Nicaraguan health staff are carrying out an investigation on people with some type of disability to improve their life conditions.

Mayor of Matagalpa department, in the north of the capital, Zaldrach Zeledón reported that Cuban doctors visited 15 000 houses and diagnosed 8 500 cases, from them 150 are very serious and are already receiving medical attention.
