Troop Operative Guards Honduras Congress
TEGUCIGALPA - A strong military operative
was deployed today surrounding the Honduras
National Congress, now in session to decide
the restitution in power or not of the
legitimate president, Manuel Zelaya.
Access to the one-chamber legislative organ
was limited to guarded Congress members
while in Tegucigalpa streets police agents,
military and dogs detain hundreds of Zelaya
followers, rallying in the streets near the
Congress headquarters where the debate is
held this Wednesday.
The only point open to discussion is the
restitution of the constitutional president,
ousted by a coup d'Etat last June 28.
The national police announced security
operatives in other regions of the country,
aimed at neutralizing possible disturbances
if parliament denies to reinstate the
president.
Zelaya said last Monday the analysis by
Congress of his return to the Presidency of
the Republic is a strategy to legitimate the
government de facto installed here and the
fraudulent elections held last Sunday.
For that reason, I will not accept my
restitution in power, stressed the head of
State, who expressed his decision to veto
the referred elections where the winner was
entrepreneur Porfirio Lobo.
The session of the Assembly...responds to
the so-called Tegucigalpa accord which,
however, has not been fulfilled by the
coupists and is considered dead letter by
the constitutional President of Honduras. |
