Ecuadorian Government Aids Stockbreeders
QUITO - The Ministry of Agriculture in
Ecuador will buy fodder rations worth about
10 million dollars for stockbreeders
affected by drought in Manabi province.
The Ecuadorian government is trying to
mitigate the lack of food for the animals
with an aid consisting on a maintenance diet
and not a fattening one. The ministry of
Agriculture is also indulging supplementary
units and minerals to stockbreeders.
On the other hand the National Secretary of
Water is handing the liquid and building
reservoirs at no cost to the population.
Minister of Agriculture Ramon Espinel stated
the situation is critical to stockbreeders
and to population in general due to drought
marked in Manabi province. Also Manabi's
neighboring Los Rios and Guayas provinces
are affected.
According to regional undersecretary of the
Ministry of Agriculture Lucy Montalvo the
drought is affecting 98.8421 acres of crops
and pasturelands, especially in Manabi,
Esmeraldas and Santo Domingo de los
Tsachilas.
Southern Andean area, where is located Paute
hydroelectric, is affected too and its
production has been reduced to half.
