San
José Airport With Added Security
The Ministerio de Obras Públicas y
Tránsportes (MOPT) announced tighter
security measures at Costa Ricans largest
international airport, the Juan Santamaría
(San José airport), located in Alajuela.
The new security measures is the addition of
more uniformed police officers at the
airport, including the addition of
undercover agents, though the exact number
was not said.
The new uniformed officials are part of a
group that recently graduated from the
police academy and identified by wearing a
beret, while the normal officers do not wear
any head gear. In the last couple of months,
groups of the new cadets were seen at the
Santamaría during field training.
The additional security is to maintain the
United States Transportation Security
Administration (TSA) status for the airport,
which has been earned by the airport.
