September To
Be A Month An Expensive Month
In a couple of days is the month of
September, the ninth month of the year and
the "mes de la independencia" (independence
month). This September, however, brings
along with it many increases in public
services, like taxi fares, bus fares and
gasoline prices.
The only exception to the increases is a
reduction of 7.2% in electrical rates that
takes effect on Tuesday. The decrease means
as savings of ¢1.400 colones on the
consumption of 300 KWH per month.
The wave of price increases will affect the
pocket book of drivers, who by the middle of
the month will be paying an additional ¢33
colones for a litre of regular and ¢34
colones for a litre of super and diesel.
By the middle of September taxi fares will
increase ¢20 colones for the first kilometre
and ¢25 colones for each additional
kilometre of the trip.
Bus fares will increase on a number of
routes as well. The cost of a bus fare on
the Heredia-San Isidro route will go from
the current ¢190 to ¢225; Alajuela- Ojo de
Agua, from ¢135 to ¢185; San José-Dominical,
from ¢3.470 to ¢4.650; and San José-Manuel
Antonio, from ¢2.975 to ¢4.665.
And in September the water and sewer utility
- the Acueductos and Alcanterillados (AyA) -
will begin getting ready to rates by as much
as 23% to take effect in October, according
to a proposal submitted for approval by the
Autoridad Reguladora de los Servicios
Públicos (Aresep).
If approved the cost of an average 22 cubic
metres of monthly water consumption will go
from ¢6.900 to ¢8.500.
The public hearing for the proposal is set
for September 10. |
