Urges Ecuador To Accept
Colombia's Apology
Quito - President of the
Andean Parliament (Parlandino) Fausto Lupera
Tuesday requested Ecuador to accept
Colombian President Alvaro Uribe's apology
to help restore diplomatic ties between both
countries.
Lupera, who was chosen on Monday as
Parlandino's president, told local TV
channel Uno that he would request a meeting
with Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa and
Uribe.
Lupera stressed Uribe's attitude of
apologizing again for the Colombian
militaries bombing a Colombia guerilla camp
in Ecuadorian territory on March 1, 2008
without informing Ecuador about it.
The raid led Quito to sever diplomatic ties
with Bogota, since Ecuador considered it a
violation of its territorial sovereignty.
According to Lupera, Uribe's attitude of
apologizing again "is a gesture of humility"
that Ecuadorians should acknowledge to help
restore the historical ties between the two
countries.
